I am a Usui Reiki Master Practitioner and Holistic Therapist.
I specialise in helping people to feel happier in life.
My focus is on finding the right balance of mind with body, body with spirit, and spirit with mind.
The Mind/Body Connection
We have a better understanding of the mind/body connection these days. Well, I say these days, but it has been understood in traditional Eastern medicine in China, Japan and India, and at the heart of indigenous shamanic medicine in Europe and across the world, for millennia.
Mind and body were separated out in Western medicine just a few centuries ago and the systems of physical illness and healing, and mental illness and healing, were treated as completely detached and unrelated entities. Fortunately we have come full circle and returned to a more holistic view of health and disease now, and are seeking to integrate mind and body practices, which is a huge step forward.
But what of spirit?
The body and mind can both be utilised in the maintenance of good health, and implicated in the causes of poor health to an extent, but where does spirit fit in? You don’t have to come from a spiritual background or view yourself as a spiritual person to consider this aspect. Think of it in terms of your essence, that bright and beautiful spark that distinguishes you from anyone else, your unique self. Not how you think (mind) or how you feel (emotions) but you. That’s how I envisage spirit.
So to me, while working towards having a healthy body and mind is an important and worthy goal, it isn’t the complete set: we need to be true to our heart, our essence, our inner guiding spirit to make it all come together in perfect harmony.
Helping people with all that
If you asked a hundred people why they feel out of kilter you’re likely to get a hundred different answers. We’re all unique. If you think about a weighing scale or a seesaw, you can picture that it’s either going to be too much of one thing or not enough of another. It might be too much stress (it often is) or too little self-confidence, for example. I can easily recall my children, when they were on a seesaw and one was bigger than the other, I would have to perch towards the side with the lighter one – but I couldn’t put all my weight on or the seesaw would tip too much the other way, it was quite a fine line which necessitated me keeping one foot on the ground and constantly adjusting the pressure.
Life is like this – we can get out of kilter at any time for lots of reasons – and it’s a constant series of adjustments. Building resilience, flexibility and adaptability to change is a big part of what I help people with. We can work on the counterbalance measures, and we will, but the key is to grow our own self-balancing skills and the faith in ourselves that we have that ability within us, waiting to be utilised.
What I mean by holistic practice
The skills, qualifications and training I bring into my holistic practice are: Reiki, Emotional Freedom Techniques (known as EFT or ‘tapping’), hypnotherapy and psychotherapy. I previously had a career as a nurse in the NHS before eventually moving into the holistic therapy field, and those valuable years of experience inform my current practice as well.
I’m endlessly fascinated by human beings, the things that bring us joy and fulfillment, and the things that interfere with our feeling of ease and wellbeing. You might come to me having the same curiosity about yourself (and how wonderful if you do!) or looking for help with connecting those elements of you that bring you joy and ease. You may want to learn techniques to help you discover your own innate resilience, abilities and coping mechanisms to move through life’s ups and downs, or perhaps need some comforting stress relief and relaxation. Or it might be something else you need help with but whatever it is you are hoping to achieve, I will draw on all of my experience, skills and training to help you to get there.
We can work together
My fundamental and enduring goal in life is to integrate my own mind, body and spirit into a happy, healthy whole. I never stop working towards that goal because it’s important work for me, it’s what I’m here for.
Which is also my aim here at HYPNITY. I’m here to help with the important work you’re doing for yourself. So if you are working towards that goal, too, then please get in touch.
What happens next?
I work with all age groups and all genders. Please call me to arrange a free initial consultation (which includes a relaxation recording to use at home) so that we can discuss your own situation in more depth. I’d like to help.
